`Masterstrokes’ is not an off-hand idea. In fact, it emerged from our commitment to giving our customers- not just a product in our wall murals and wallpapers- but also, an entirely unique experience. Inspired by the ideal of increasing customer satisfaction, we began to consider other offerings that may shift the perception of walls being mere ‘separators’ of space, to them becoming ‘canvases’ for the expression of an inhabitant’s sense of style. Style, we reckoned, is so much more than just a ‘manner’ of doing things; its antecedents lie in our culture, identity and in our sense of aesthetics. And all of these, are both the subject and object of art.
Unfortunately, art has been slotted in our collective modern consciousness, as being somehow unapproachable, incomprehensible, erudite and out of bounds, for people outside of its closed inner circle. We wondered why: Does art express thoughts and feelings that are alien to the lay person? On the contrary, its subject matter is almost always that which is fundamentally ‘human’. In bringing to the fore, that which we lack either the courage or technique to give expression to, art connects us all. It frees us from the shackles and self-limiting beliefs of our minds, allows us to imagine new possibilities and more importantly, gives us whole new ways of understanding and appreciating the complexity of life around us. The thought of making art accessible to a wider audience, inspired us to re-imagine how it could be presented, positioned and made sensible to the end-consumer. Through rigorous application of design thinking, we discovered how beautifully art and wall décor complemented each other. Each became more meaningful in the presence of the other. And thus, Masterstrokes was conceived.
For us, Masterstrokes is not an ideology or a brand, it is essentially a platform that bridges the distance between culture and lifestyle, or more narrowly between art and décor. The bringing together of Art and Wall Décor is our design. In conceptualizing walls as a ‘mood’ to the work of art, we attempt at telling our customers, its story. Limited edition reproductions, authenticated by the artist himself, and then presented as a well-curated story- make art not only accessible but also, deeply engaging. Never before, has Fine Art been so well-packaged and so within one’s physical and intellectual reach.
‘Akshar- The Imperishable’ is our first ‘art and artist-centred’ collection. An ode to the genius of world-renowned calligraphy artist, Mr. Achyut Palav, it is designed to evoke in our discerning customers, an appreciation of the deep artistic sensibility and elegance of powerful calligraphic strokes. Sometimes identifiable, sometimes abstract- each work is an authentic product of the heart engaged with its own observations.
